Lady Dinos finish off region play with win

Third place in the region was already sewed up for Carbon before the final region game. For Park City, the loss would mean a play-off game with ALA to get into the final slot. Guess who showed up to play with more energy? The Miners did. Park City may have had more at stake, but Carbon was the team who walked away with the 12-9 win.
The Lady Dinos scored in the top half of the first inning, but then the Miners came back with a pair in their half. Carbon answered with two in the second and the game stayed 3-2 for the next few innings.
The team knew they were not playing up to their usual intensity. They gave themselves a cushion with a five-run fifth and then followed it with a four- run sixth. The Miners were not ready to concede and scored three in the fifth, two in the sixth and a pair in the seventh. But in the end the Miners fell three runs short and now face ALA in a play-in game for the last spot in the region.
Chelsea Bullins and Darrian Smith each popped a double. But one of the biggest hits came off the bat of Nikki Williams in the sixth. With bases loaded she tripled in three runs and crossed the plate herself for the four run of the inning.
"It was interesting," commented Tony Pinedo after the game, "We didn't have the urgency that Park City did and our girls knew it. But we did some good things and we pulled it out and that is good."
The Lady Dinos will head to Emery for a non-region meeting on Thursday. On Friday they plan a short practice before heading up to Tremonton for the first round. They still don't know who their first opponent will be except that it will be either Cedar or Canyonview. Those two teams still have one game each and may end up tied if they both win their match-ups.
