It's always good to pick up a win after a tough loss. That is exactly what the Lady Dino softball team did on Wednesday against Manti with a 6-4 win. They did it in a dramatic fashion by ending the game with a rare triple play.

Manti picked up the first score of the game with a run in the first. The Lady Dinos wasted no time in going ahead 3-1 in the top of the second and never looking back. Manti closed it to 3-2 in the third and then the Dinos put up a run in the fourth to go back up by a pair.

Carbon added two more in the fifth and so did the Templars, but that is where it stayed. In the seventh with Manti threatening, they hit a solid line drive that was caught, then Carbon stepped on second and threw to first for the force and the final out of the game.

Four of the eight hits by Carbon were extra base hits. Brianne Vogrinec, Kenzie Cave and Megan Tubbs each hit a double and Brittany Stefanoff pounded out a triple.

Coach Tony Pinedo was ecstatic about the win. He had not been able to travel with the team for that game and could barely hear the news because the team was celebrating so loudly in the background when he got the call.

"We just keep getting better on the defense. As we get closer to state, we continue to improve. This is going to be a really good team if they keep moving forward the way they have been, I do think even as well as they are doing this year that they are going to be that much better next season if they work hard all summer."

The Friday region game with Park City was postponed until Monday due to weather. Results and scores will be in the Thursday edition.

But to stay sharp, Pinedo scheduled another non region game at home with Grand. Carbon took that game 3-1 for another win.

All the scoring happened in the first three innings with Carbon jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Grand put up their only run in the third and then the Dinos matched it. Grand actually out hit the Dinos 6-5, but again it was solid defense that kept them from turning the hits into runs.

The Dinos will play one more non-region game against Emery in Castle Dale on Wednesday before heading to Bear River for their first opponent in the state tournament on Saturday.
