Wasatch sting Dinos for another loss
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate sports reporter
The Carbon baseball team swept Wasatch in two games earlier in the season. This time the Wasps were ready and came out quick to put the Dinos in a hole they never recovered from. In the end Wasatch took the game 6-2.
The Dinos did not put up anything in the first inning. Then Hayden Basinger took the mound for Carbon and suddenly they were in a 5-0 deficit. The Dinos put up a run in the second, but the Wasps added another to stay five up. Carbon made one last attempt to get back in, but managed to only send one run over the plate in the seventh.
The Dinos out hit the Wasps 11-7, but runners were left stranded as the team struggled to make the key hits to move them over for a score. Julian Tamllos managed the only extra base hit for Carbon with a double.
Coach Troy Moynier reflected that this loss was very similar to the Park City loss.
"We didn't show up to play. It was more like we played not to make mistakes. We didn't show any aggression. We had opportunities and didn't finish. It hurts when you lose a key game."
But he did go on to explain that they are not in panic mode just yet. They have to play Union next week and then get to host Park City for the final two games. If they win all three they are the region champs. But they have to win all three.
"I can't see any scenario that we can be the champs without winning all three," Moynier said, "But the good news is that it is all in our hands and we can do this."
The team travels to Union on Tuesday before the final two games against Park City next Friday, April 30. That final series will begin with a game at 2:30 p.m.
