In an effort to raise funds for the city and eliminate surplus, two police cruisers were auctioned off by Wellington City recently.

The bids were read at the Wellington City council meeting on April 14. Jared Atwood bid $805 for a 2001 Chevy Impala and Tyler Babcock bid $500 on a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria. A motion to accept the bids was passed.

Megan Anderson came before the council for an application for Megan Anderson Daycare. She had met with planning and zoning and was been approved to open her business. Her state license allows up to eight children in her home. The council approved her application. Rowe Zwahlen came before the council with an application for a home occupation name Yardz and Gardenz. His property is zoned correctly for his business. Planning and zoning gave him a conditional approval with yearly review and reevaluation. The council also approved his business license.

Edward Rawski approached the council about conditional use permit for his dogs. Rawski had gone before planning and zoning and was denied the chance to get a third dog license due to the board not wanting to set a precedence of doing that. Planning and zoning finally decided recommend to the council to issue a one time conditional use permit to allow licensing on his third dog until Jan 1, 2011. It was noted Rawski does not have enough land to warrant a kennel license. The council passed a motion was approved for a one time conditional license.

On another issue Dale King requested that the city vacate a right of way on his property adjacent to CV Spur. King is purchasing some land in the area and there are some buildings built on the right of way. The council discussed the situation and wanted to to make sure there are no utilities within the ROW.

"Unless there are utilities or something else in there I don't think it affects us," said Councilman Marvin Wilson.

Councilman Kirt Tatton said that he agreed with the recommendation to look into this matter more fully. Consequently the motion was tabled depending on further review.

Johnny Powell also gave a fire department report to the council. March had three fire calls, 10 rescue calls, one community service call and five training sessions. Up to the time of the council meeting, the department had responded to one fire, seven rescues, one wildland fire, and two community service calls in April. Powell requested that Quaid Hanna be added as a probational member of the fire department.

Powell also reported tha the hydrant located at 1236 E. Main has been replaced and upgraded to a higher capacity. Powell thanked councilwoman Amber Adair for her help in obtaining grants for the department.

Tatton reported on planning and zoning and he updated the council on the fact that Tony Basso has resigned from the board.

Basso says he will stay until his position is filled.
