It was a good week for the Dino softball team. After destroying Park City at home on Tuesday, the team headed to American Fork. They split the pair of games with a 10-0 win and then a 4-2 loss. Then the team finished off with a 6-1 victory over ALA on Friday.

Kenzie Cave took the mound for the Dinos in game one on Thursday against American Fork. She pitched a complete game shutout. She was backed up by some solid defense from a team that committed no errors.

The Dino offense was led by Alexis Oliver who had both a double and a home run. Megan Tubbs and Darrian Smith each had a double as well.

Coach Tony Pinedo decided to give his younger players some varsity time and sat his seniors in the second game. The girls took the early lead but in the third, AF tied it at two. They went ahead with two more in the fourth and Breanna Hurdsman took the loss for Carbon. Again Pinedo felt like even with the loss, his team played some really good defense.

On Friday neither team scored in the first two frames. ALA put up the first score in the bottom of the third to go ahead. The lead was short lived as the Dinos put up four runs in the top of the fourth.

The Eagles never scored again, even as Carbon added a run in the sixth and the seventh to secure the win. Cave only allowed three hits in the contest and she retired 11 straight batters to finish the game off. Brittany Stefanoff smashed a double in the win.

Many of the Dinos are in the top 20 in several areas. Smith is leading 3A in triples with five on the season. Oliver and Tubbs are 12 and 13th for home runs. Tubbs is second in doubles. Cave is ranked 12th with her eight wins off the mound this season.

"Our girls are really swinging the bats right now. I told them if we are scoring runs we will continue to win. But I am really pleased with our defense right now. This is the best team defense we have had in a long time," stated Coach Pinedo.

Most of the team headed to play in a JV tournament this last weekend. The team played a lot of bigger schools and went 3-2 overall. This included a 9-2 win over Provo and a last inning 2-1 loss to Copper Hills. Pinedo can't say enough about the hard work this team, both varsity and JV are putting in to have a successful season.

The team takes on conference rival Wasatch on Tuesday. The game is on the road. They then travel to play Cyprus on Friday in a non-region meeting.
