The cadets of Castle Valley Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol recently attended their first encampment as a new cadet squadron. The "Camp Curry" weekend training participants included cadets from Richfield, Wendover, Provo and Price. There were senior members present to provide training to the cadets in their physical fitness regimens, drill and ceremony, and classroom breakout sessions focusing on military protocols and aerospace education. Each cadet completed the weekend training with their first level patch being awarded, the Curry Certificate, and the advancement from Cadet to Airman. Topics taught during encampments and weekly meetings teach the cadets how to think critically, communicate effectively, make decisions, motivate others and manage conflict. The focus of cadet training is a set of core values which include integrity, volunteer service, excellence and respect to encourage the cadets to be good citizens, serve their community and contribute to something larger than themselves. The Castle Valley cadets have completed their orientation flights in a CAP airplane and had the opportunity to experience glider flights on Friday and Saturday. When asked how the flight was, each cadet unanimously stated "awesome". For further information about Civil Air Patrol programs call Jess Hall at 650-4099 or Lora Akers at 637-6303.
