Fred Wataru Taniguchi crossed into the Pure Land at the age of 96 on April 4, 2010.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1914 in Dinuba, Calif., to Shizuto Taniguchi and Kazuko Taketani. Raised and educated in Hiroshima, Japan, by his uncle, Tadashi Taniguchi, he returned to the United States at the age of 16. Fred was a long-time leader in the Japanese/American communities in Carbon and Emery counties. He was the president of the Kyo Ai Kai as well as a member of the Odgen Buddhist Church and the Japanese American Citizen League.

In his younger years, Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life, his passion was golfing with his family and friends. He took pride in his home and yard and loved animals. Fred also enjoyed traveling and returned to his home in Japan many times.

He is survived by his wife and seven children, Alice Suekawa (Harry), Sherry Miyashiro (Charles), Bob Taniguchi (Jeff Worsham), 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Uncle Tadashi.

Funeral Services will be held at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North St. on Monday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends may call one hour prior.
