An ATV accident early Monday morning has left one Carbon County child dead, according to the Emery County Sheriff's Office.

Zachary Westbrook, 11, and his cousin were riding an ATV in the Mounds area southeast of Wellington when they approached a wash. While looking to see if they could cross it, a front wheel on the ATV left the path, causing their vehicle to roll over, pinning Zachary beneath it, according to Emery County Sheriff Lamar Guymon. The passenger tried to move the ATV but was unable to do so.

He ran back to a camp where some members of their family were staying to get help and brought them to the scene.

The family members attempted CPR on Zachary and he was transported to a location where an ambulance from Carbon County was waiting to pick him up.

Zachary was taken to Castleview Hospital in Price where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., according to Guymon. Both boys were also wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

He was a fifth-grader at Creekview Elementary School and loved sports. Zachary is the son of Charlie and Shauntel Westbrook.
