Scoring still sparse for Dino's
It remains a tough season for the Carbon Dino soccer team as they still have not posted a win yet this season. The closest thing so far is a 1-1 tie with Grantsville last Wed, March 24. But on Friday the powerful Wasatch Wasps came to play and stung the Dinos with a 9-0 defeat.
Against non-region foe Grantsville Carbon actually out shot the Cowboys both halves of play. Carbon Coach Patrick Clifford reported that his team actually had 20 shots on goal each half compared to about four that Grantsville was able to manage. But still it only took one to roll in and the Cowboys had the lead in the first period.
The Dinos finally managed to get one in the net in the second half to tie it up on a shot by Tanner Gagnon. The clock ran out with the game knotted at one. Despite two OT periods neither team could punch it in for a score and the game ended in a wash.
For Clifford it was a little disappointing because he felt like his team really outplayed their opponent all game. "We still need to figure out how to score!" he reiterated as he watched his team warm up for the Wasatch game.
Hopefully his team paid attention against the Wasps because they were able to score early and often in the Friday game. Wasatch put four in the first and five more in the second half to dominate the game. They ended with seven players who had made a goal.
Carbon will have another home region game this Wednesday with Park City coming to town. Region 10 games begin at 4 p.m.
