For the Lady Dinos, a change in region does not mean beating Emery isn't a big deal. Carbon opened their season with a home game against the Spartans and make a huge comeback from five runs down in the sixth to beat Emery, 13-12.

The two teams are now in separate regions and so their meeting was a non-region game, but pride and a good start to each of their seasons was at stake. Both scored a run in the first and then two in the third to go into the fourth inning knotted up at three.

The Lady Dinos had Kenzie Cave on the mound and she struggled a little in the middle innings and the Spartans took advantage and added five runs in the next two innings. Carbon held them in the sixth before exploding with eight runs in the bottom half of the frame

Cave, Megan Tubbs, Brianne Vogrinic and Breanna Hurdsman all hit a two-bagger and Smith powered a triple in the win.

"Last season we lost almost every one-run game we were in, its nice to be on the winning side of one for a change," Coach Tony Pinedo said. "I hope this is a good omen for our season."

The team headed to Moab for a four-game tournament on Saturday and it was more success for the squad. They beat 4A Timpanogas, 6-4, for their first game. Cave was winning pitcher.

Smith hit another double in the game. Alexis Oliver and Megan Tubbs also hit a two bagger in the come-from-behind win.

In the second game it was Breanna Hurdsman on the mound. She got the loss as the Dinos fell 4-0 in their first defeat of the season. Brittany Stefanoff was two for three with a double.

Carbon outslugged San Juan, 7-6 to get back to winning ways. Tubbs drove the offense going three for four. All her hits were doubles. Cave got the win on the mound.

The results of games played on March 17 will be published in the Sun Advocate on Tuesday, March 23.
