The womens' finals of the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament was a battle to the end as North Idaho College kept a lead they fought for early in the game against top-seeded Salt Lake Community College. The final score was 86-76 and it marked the second straight game in which the Lady Cardinals bumped off a higher-ranked club.

In the semis, the team upset second-seed state rivals, the College of Southern Idaho in a stunning double-overtime affair.

Against Salt Lake, NIC played a very quick-paced game from the start. Taking an early lead the squad never looked back as they ran the floor and kept the Bruins from being able to pull it close.

A smothering, swarming defense also kept SLCC from establishing their penetrating offense, leading to poor shot selection and numerous turnovers.

Other games in the tournament:

Northern Idaho beat CNCC 88-57 in the early game on Thursday. On Friday afternoon, NIC took down CSI in a thrilling double-overtime game.

SLCC beat Snow, 86-77. In the championship game it was NIC and Salt Lake going head to head. Even though SLCC was the higher seed and had spent much of the season natioanly ranked, it was the Lady Cardinals that took the title and will head to the NJCAA tournament with an automatic berth.
