NIC 88, CNCC 57

In an impressive win Northern Idaho College controlled the game early on with better rebounding better shooting from the charity line and overall higher field goal percentage. Domination was key to their success as the Cardinals flew to an 88-57 win in the opening round of the Region 18 Scenic Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament.

The Lady Cardinals dominated the game from the start. The Cardinal full-court press was devastating and forced poor ball control which they took advantage of fully. Amy Warbrick led her team with fast breaks allowing NIC to pull away from the Spartans. With 4:45 left in the first half NIC doubled CNCC's score at 32-16.

The half ended with a score of 39-22 NIC leading. During the second half the Cardinals pulled away and never looked back as they coasted to an easy 88-57 win.

CSI 76, Snow 72

College of Southern Idaho trailed most of the game until they rallied with 14 minutes left in the second half. Carrick Felix and Josten Thomas with 23 apiece led the way for CSI as they kept the Badgers of Snow College from closing the gap as they went for a 76-72 win in the opening round of the Region 18 Scenic Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament.

First half action was fast paced and frequent as Snow pulled ahead 18-11 with 11:30 left. Badger Reggie Shaw hit back to back 3 pointers to extend their lead. Play was fast paced and very physical as both teams tried to show dominance over the other. Snow ran the floor as they ended the half 41-34.

The second half had several lead changes as the Badgers allowed the Cardinals to close the gap and take control of the game. Three technical fouls and one intentional foul gave the Badgers chances to tie the score. Good free-throw shooting percentage brought the score to a tie only adding to the intensity of the game. During the last two minutes of the game free-throw shooting was key as the Eagles kept their lead and did not allow Snow to take advantage of their lead throughout the game.

SLCC 104, CNCC 69

Salt Lake Community College never looked back as they handily beat Colorado Northwestern Community College 104-69 in the opening round of the Region 18 Scenic Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament.

The Bruins were shown some promise of a close game early on but the Spartans fell apart at the hands of SLCC. The Spartans fought hard for rebounds and did a good job of setting up plays and getting the ball to their open man. Offensive rebounds were hard to come by at each end of the court as they showed what their defense was capable of. The Bruins intercepted a lot of passes which resulted in fast breaks.

The Bruins didn't allow any breathing room as they doubed the Spartans score at the half, 50-25.
