By James Cordova
'09 Carbon Babe Ruth League president

It doesn't feel like baseball season with the snow on the ground. However, it is that time of the year when the past league president turns over the equipment, books, keys, and other related materials to the new league president. (2010 Babe Ruth League President, Bobby Etzel). As I did this, I reflected back on last year season. I recalled the state tournament which was hosted by the Carbon Babe Ruth League at the College of Eastern Utah baseball field. Much thanks to Manager/Coach Scott Madsen and Assistant Coach Terry Jordan. During the tournament both were responsible for prepping the field prior to the games and having the field play ready for the next day. This couldn't have happened without the use of the college field and the assistance of both coaches. This was much appreciated (A detailed appreciation letter was printed in the Sun Advocate after last season to all that supported and were instrumental in making the league regular season and tournament play a success).

When the tournament was announced, I was humbled by how much support was offered by the parents, the community, and other managers from other leagues. Helper American Legion Manager/Coach Jeff Cisneros, and Carbon High Manager/Coach Troy Moynier offered their facilities without hesitation.

I would also like to thank Terry Willis for the coverage of the state tournament. Terry was instrumental for the coverage of this tournament in the Sun Advocate. As long as Terry was notified of the scheduled games, she made every effort to be there.

Last Spring I met with Richard Shaw to arrange the regular season game schedule, scores, and team standings to be published in the paper. He agreed to meet with all the league presidents, boards, or liaisons to make arrangements for the information to be printed. This didn't happen, not to the fault of the Sun Advocate. I'm sure this offer still stands.

As you can imagine this time of year is busy for the Sun Advocate. There is only one sports writer and she is stretched at best. Any help that can be given to the paper would be appreciated. One person can't cover, be present, or attend every game.

So remember sports fans, parents, spectators, players, league governing boards, and interested supporters of local baseball, a little help can go a long way!

As the outgoing president of the Carbon Babe Ruth League I just wanted to again say thank you to all who supported the 13,14, and 15 year old players. (The league would like to promote a 16 to 18 year old division this year. Look for registration in February.)
