It was a win or go home play-in game for the Lady Dinos down in St. George on Friday night. Carbon got the 41-31 win over Desert Hills and will now advance to the big dance this Thursday through Saturday up at Utah Valley University.

Desert Hills was seeded as number two in their region, the Lady Dinos were number three in theirs. But Coach Cami Carlson felt it was a favorable match-up and Carbon showed why as they led the entire game. Most of the game the Dino lead was sitting at five points. That was enough to give them a little breathing room, but not enough to let them relax. In the end Carbon pulled away for the decisive ten point win.

"It was a fun game," said a tired Carlson the next morning after a 4 am arrival back in Price. "We played our game and held the lead the entire way."

Tia Pappas scored 11 and Sara Potts stuck in 10 to run the offense for the Lady Dinos. Miranda Averett swatted six blocks to add to her eight points and five rebounds and a steal. Averett was named the Carbon player of the game. Kylee Lessar and Potts led the defense with six rebounds each.

Juab surprised a lot of people with its win over number one ranked Morgan. Morgan did not have their leading scorer, but they were still thought to be the team that would prevail.

In a preseason show-down the Dinos edged out Juab in their first meeting in several years. Carlson knows that it helps just to know they have beaten them before. In fact the Dinos led easily most of the way until they slipped into cruise mode toward the end of the game and let Juab back into it. Both team have improved a lot during the season so it will be a whole different game. Carbon will be watching films this week in preparation for the meeting.

Carbon will face Juab in the first round at UVU at 9:00 pm on Thursday night. Emery takes on Union at 7:30 pm on Thursday. The winners of those matches face off at 2:30 on Friday. The two losers will head to the consolation bracket and play each other at 11:10 on Friday morning.
