The Bureau of Land Management, Utah, Price Field Office will host a public meeting to discuss the development of a site stewardship program for the West Tavaputs Plateau, which includes Nine Mile Canyon.

The meeting is scheduled for March 3, from 6-8 p.m., in the Carbon County Event Center conference room located at 450 South Fairgrounds Way in Price.

A site stewardship program allows trained volunteers the opportunity to work with professional archaeologists to protect archaeological and historical resources by visiting sites regularly to record visual observations. Stewardship volunteers are members of the public who are exceptionally interested in the ongoing protection and preservation of cultural resources.

Development of a site stewardship program is one of the measures included within the West Tavaputs Plateau Natural Gas Full Field Development Programmatic Agreement, which was finalized on Jan. 5, 2010. The purpose of this agreement is to protect cultural resources on West Tavaputs, while permitting orderly and environmentally-responsible natural gas development.

For more information on development of the site stewardship program, please contact Tyler Ashcroft at (435) 636-3613.
