Carbon Boys basketball falls hard to Park City

It was the final home game of the year and senior night for the Carbon boy's basketball team. This was a must win game for the Dinos if they wanted a shot at the second seed spot. They didn't get it, falling short to the Park City Miners 77-54 in front of a hometown crowd.

The first quarter started off with Park City establishing themselves on defense as they forced the Dinos to turn it over. But Carbon hung in and was only down by a pair. But the Miners confidence grew and the Dino frustration did as well, and by the half it was 11 point hole that the Carbon team faced.

The Dinos made a flurry of shots and some good defensive stops at the end of the third quarter to pull within six. Hope welled in the crowd. But Park City answered quickly in the fourth to let the Dinos know they were in charge.

Keny Seals hit for 16 points. Daniel Peczuh scored 11 while Clint Finkbiner and Brock Morley each ended with 10.

"Park City was shooting really well and we didn't stop them," remarked Coach Ted Bianco after the game. "It's hard to win games like that. This loss really hurt. We did some good things, but not enough. We had that good end to the third quarter, but that took a lot of energy out of us and we couldn't finish it off."

The Miners sit in second at 3-3 and the Dinos are tied with ALA and Union at 2-4. Second place is still attainable, but the ball is no longer in Carbon's hands and it is a long shot. The Dinos must win both of their remaining games on the road and Park City has to lose to Union.

Carbon will travel to take on ALA on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and then finish up regular season play against Union in Roosevelt on Friday night at 7 p.m.
