Dino swim team take 13 to state meet

The Carbon swim team traveled to BYU on February 5 and 6 for the 3 A state championship meet. Last year the Dinos were was only able to take two swimmers and this year they had 13 qualify to go. There were 20 teams participating at the state finals. The Carbon girls finished 12 and the Carbon boys finished 16.
All three of the Carbon girl's relay teams made it to state. Jill Malone, Megan Barnet, Kenzie Mantz , and Aysha Black made up all three relay teams. The 200 medley relay ranked 14th going in to the event and finished 12th. The 200 free relay finished 14th.They improved their time by a second in both events. For the 400 free relay they were again ranked 14th going into the race. The Carbon girls swam a great race and climbed to 12th while improving their time by 13 seconds.
All three of the Carbon boys relay teams also earned a spot at state. Swimming the 200 hundred medley relay was Vaughn Garff, Nick Torres , Dallen Garvin, and Brett Davis. They were ranked 13th going in and finished in 12th. The Dino 200 free relay consisted of Garvin, Garff, Brandon Gibson and Davis. They finished 14th. Finally the 400 free relay consisted of Garvin, Dakota Powell, Gibson, and Davis garnered 14th also with their best time.
Carbon had only individual event swimmer. That was Garvin in the 100 butterfly. He grabbed 19th out of 24 swimmers.
Coach Kamera Davis summed up the season, "Carbon swimmers have came a long way since last season. Some of them just missing state by only a second/ We are looking promising for next season! I will miss all of the seniors."
