Wrestlers do well in region 10 tournament

The Carbon High wrestling team placed second in the region 10 tournament held at Union High School in Roosevelt on Jan. 27.

Wasatch took first and Park City was third.

Individual placing in region 10 determines seeding position in the Super-Region tournament to be held at Ben Loman High Feb. 5 and 6.

This is where Region 10 and 11 teams compete for qualifying into the Utah State Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 12 and 13 at UVU.

The Dinos placed 10 wrestlers in the medal round.

Bryce Jackman won first place at 112 pounds by defeating Morgan Sweat (Wasatch) 9-1.

He also pinned Joe St. Peter (ALA) in 0:44 seconds of the first round. He defeated Brandon Woolstenhulme (Park City) 17-0 and pinned Randon Taylor (Union) in 0:33 seconds of the first round.

Wyatt Martinez took first place at 130 pounds by defeating Riley Charlesworth (WA) 14-4. He also pinned David Aust (ALA) in 0:56 seconds of the first round. Martinez defeated Justus Minardi (PC) 15-8 and pinned Colden Nielson (Union) in 2:21 in the second round.

Cole Hunt garnered first place at 140 pounds by pinning Bryce Provost (WA) in 0:53 seconds of the first round.

He also won by forfeit over ALA by pinning Devon Maddus (PC) in 0:31 seconds of round one and Mason Powell (Union) in 1:20 of the first round.

Jacob Bass got second place at 119 pounds often losing first to Robby Minor (WA) 3-20.

He then pinned Jermy Barker in the second round and got a decision 11-2 over Maddie Magee (PC).Finally Bass pinned Weston Moon (Union) in the first round.

Cody Hunt won second place at 125 pounds by losing to Jake Fassold (WA) 6-19.

He pinned Justin Davis (ALA) and Lucas Anderson (PC) in the first round. Then he defeated Chad Malnar (Union) 6-3.

Samuel Manarite won second place at 145 pounds.

He beat (WA) by forfeit then pinned Cache Staheli (ALA) and Colin Root (PC) in the first round.

Finally losing by fall to Cassidy Farnsworth (Union), David Fonnesbeck took second place at 189 pounds, he lost by fall to Kaleb Moritz (WA) in the first round and then beat ALA by forfeit. He also pinnedg John Fitch (PC) in the first round and won over Union by forfeit.

Earning third were Stefan Larsen at 135 pounds, T.J. Bettino at 103 pounds, and Jesse Bigelow at 171 pounds.

Coaches John Watkins, Lou Mele, Montel Jackman, and Trent Greenhalgh are proud of the team's accomplishments as the team moves into super-region and State tournaments.
