Dinos snag first region win against ALA with authority
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate sports reporter
A home game was just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Dinos. They made the most of it as they crushed American Leadership 85-61 in front of a home crowd of Friday night.
With the sting of the last minute loss to Park City fresh on their minds, Carbon came out hard against the Eagles on Friday night. Determined to post a first win, they came out with energy and a solid defense that did not abate for the entire four quarters of play.
The crowd's excitement grew as did the Dino lead at the end of each quarter of play. The Dinos outscored their opponent in every period to make sure there would be no chance for a repeat of the Tuesday outcome. With 2:25 left in the game, the starters were content to watch the bench finish it off.
Four Dinos ended up in double figures with Daniel Peczuh leading the way. He put up 16 points, with 12 of them coming from beyond the three point line. Clint Finkbiner hit a pair of threes as well and put up 14 points in the offensive barrage. Justin Child was also a force with 12 and Beau Rich got into the act with 11.
The Dinos were much better from the line as well and managed 69 percent. But the stat that Coach Ted Bianco was the most proud of was the 23 assists his team dished out.
"They were very unselfish tonight. When they share, they play better and we win," he said immediately after the game.
He also added that his bench was instrumental in the victory. "The bench play was huge tonight. Overall we played a total game. We were solid on defense, offense and shooting. We need to do this on Tuesday. Union will be a much tougher team, but if we play at this level we can beat them."
Carbon, ALA and Union are all sitting at 1-2 in region action. Park City is at 2-2 and Wasatch is in the cat bird seat at 3-0.
The Tuesday game against Union is at 5:15 p.m. in the Carbon High gym and the girl's game will follow right after.
