A new year and a new decade. What might the future hold?

It certainly will bring some new and exciting technological changes. We certainly will behold weather crisis and earthquakes. We will see economic rises and falls.

We will endure the deaths of notable celebrities and experience new faces that will become household names for reasons beyond our comprehension right now. We will have political upheaval in our country as well as many others before the decade is out.

There! That is my prediction of the future. Sure sounds a lot like the past decade. That may sound scary for some and it may bring comfort to others. We can not really see into the future beyond a day or two.

Ask any weather man if they can. Even with our most sophisticated computers and satellite gear, weather remains a prediction that is only reliable a day or two out at best. Too many variables.

The same for economic forecasts. They may try and predict trends, but so much that is out of our hands can change those at a moments notice. Who could have seen 9-11 and its impact on Wall-Street even the day before it happened?

My life has taken some very unexpected jogs along the way. Last decade I certainly thought I had a path laid out. My husband and I had to sit at a fork in the road for a couple of months and then proceeded down a side road we never expected. And here we are today, still traveling together and making the most of it.

Every single one of us is in for some surprises over the next 10 years. Some will be good and there will be some dark and sad ones. We cannot change that.

If you are still thinking about making a new year's resolution, then make one that truly makes your outlook on life better. What small change do you want to make that will make your life better.

It's pretty futile to set the same goal, year after year because you probably should. You know the ones I mean - lose weight, stop smoking and get organized, etc, etc, etc.

How about set a goal to give yourself some joy and happiness. Maybe if you can look at life with a positive outlook, the other things might just happen too.

Anyway have a great New Year and I hope that everyone who reads this will find one thing to smile about today. I hope I do at least. I sure have been a bit of a grump.

Oh wait, the kids are back in school-Yeah!!
