Spencer's Wishes radio-thon pulls in bucks for kids

On Nov. 18 the Spencer's Wishes Foundation in conjunction with Castle Country Radio and the Castle Valley Community raised more than $21,000 to fund the programs the foundation sponsors throughout the year.

This was the seventh year that Phil and Pam Roundy have come into the studios and kept the phones lines lit until the funds were raised. This year, the Roundys and their dedicated and selfless army of boardmembers and volunteers took over the Castle Country Studios for 6-plus hours to "raise money for little kids," as Phil likes to say.

The donations garnered, will be used as the primary funding source for both the Spencer's Wishes Christmas Shopping Spree and the Spencer's Wishes Spring Baseball Clinic. The shopping spree gives 100 local children the opportunity to go on a shopping spree at Wal-Mart, minus their parents and the Spencer's Wishes Spring Baseball Clinic allows more than 300 area kids the chance to enjoy a day with professional baseball players at Spring Mobile Park, home of the Salt Lake Bees.

Both Phil and Pam Roundy repeatedly commented about the generosity of a community that continues to give despite difficult economic times.
