PRICE - Paul Bruce Hill, 57, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at his residence in Price.

Bruce was born Sept. 18, 1952 as the son of Charles Dalton Hill and Elwanda (Deason) Hill at Miner's hospital in Christopher, IL.

He graduated from Benton Consolidated High School in 1971 and attended college in Texas, Kentucky and Illinois before he began a successful mining career starting with Peabody Austin in the Safety Department, then for eight years with Pyro Mining culminating as Safety Director. From 1987 - 1996, he was with Arch Minerals in St Louis in various safety and personnel positions and ultimately Director of Catenary Coal in 1996.

He then worked for Drummond Coal, based in Jasper, Ala., as the Vice President of Surface Operations.

In August, 1998, he went became Vice President of Human Resources of Murray Energy Corporation, and was later promoted to President of Human Resources.

He covering several mines in the Pennsylvania/Ohio area as well as Illinois and Kentucky, and a rebuild shop in West Virginia. In Aug. 2006 Bruce was promoted to Vice President and later President and Chief Executive Officer of Utah American Energy, Inc., a Murray Energy subsidiary.

Bruce lived life with zest and never shied away from an adventure. He was extremely proud of his three daughters and his best times were the days he spent with them. He loved snazzy cars and fast boats as well as skiing, sports and his mother's green beans.

He is survived by three daughters, Allison Hill, Waialua, HA, Andrea Hill, Chicago, IL, and Amanda Hill, a senior at Indiana University, a brother, Jim (Hazel) of Stockton, CA, step-father, John Woolley, Benton, IL, and two step-sisters, Sue (Bud) Causey of Racine, WI and Ann Woolley (Clancy Cain) of Kansas City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Hill, mother, Elwanda Hill Woolley, as well as his maternal grandparents, Mary and Paul Deason, and paternal grandparents, Riley and Leona Hill.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Shook officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
