The Eastern Utah Wind Symphony, a college-community concert band at College of Eastern Utah, will present its fall concert on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the CEU Jennifer Leavitt Student Center, located at 500 North and 300 East in Price.

Founded in 2001, the Wind Symphony enlightens and entertains audiences by presenting quality performances of fine literature representing many traditional and contemporary styles. The Nov. 7 program will feature Broadway, march, patriotic, and traditional selections.

Opening the program will be Flashing Winds, a spirited work by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost. Next, the Wind Symphony will perform David Gillingham's At Morning's First Light, a piece that depicts a view of the sun rising across a lake in central Michigan. In recognition of this month's Veterans Day observance, the Wind Symphony will present Armed Forces Salute, including the songs of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. Two European-style marches come next in the program: March from The Love for Three Oranges, to be performed in a version for percussion ensemble, is from an opera by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, and Pierre Leemans' March of the Belgian Paratroopers was composed near the end of World War II. Excerpts from speeches by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy will be featured in JFK: In Memoriam, a work that blends music, narration, and visuals. Finally, the Wind Symphony will conclude its concert with highlights from Meredith Willson's popular 1950s musical, The Music Man.

The Nov. 7 band concert in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center is sponsored by the CEU Department of Music. Gregory Benson, music professor and vice president for academic affairs at College of Eastern Utah, will conduct the evening's performance.
