Dino swimming hosts tri-meet, places strong

The Carbon Swim Team hosted a tri-meet on Oct.29.

The girls defeated Uintah 93 to 46, but lost to Richfield 101 to 61.

The Dino boys defeated Richfield 90 to 75, but they lost to Uintah 103 to 60.

The meet started off with the 200 medley relay and the Carbon girls finished second and the boys captured first. "What a way to start off the meet!" exclaimed Coach Kamera Davis. "In the second event the 200 free, I decided to put kids in that weren't comfortable in this event and had great results."

Kim Callaway finished third with fellow teammates Jill Fincher taking fourth and Paula Gibson in sixth.

Toby Prettyman was third in the 200 free for the boys. Brandon Gibson was fourth while improving his time by 30 seconds. Tim Neilson ended in sixth.

In the 200 IM Carbon had girls that had never raced the event.

Jill Malone grabbed fourth and fellow teammate, Heather Bone was sixth.

For the boys it was Brett Davis who took second, Nick Torres finished sixth and Thory VanDyke was seventh.

In the 50 free Carbon's Megan Barnett captured first, Jenae Wilhelmi was fourth, Brianne Ewan fifth, Lizethe Pendleton eighth and Ashley Noyes 10th.

The boys saw Dallen Garvin taking third, Vaughn Garff sixth, Dakota Powell tenth, Jade Powell 11th, Jordan Pinedo 12th, Landon Barr 15th, Ozzy Pullan 18th, Zack Prettman twentieth, Jake Carpenter 21st, Jake Allred 23rd and Austin Martinez 24th.

In the boys 100 butterfly, Garvin sweeped the competition with his first place victory.

For the girls 100 free it was Kenzie Mantz in third, Kim Callaway was in second and but missed the last wall and still came in fourth.

The boys race was very close. Brett Davis ended up second by less than a second. Lance Riche finished fifth, Brandon Gibson sixth, Garff eighth, Jade Powell twelfth, Pinedo 15th, Barr seventeenth, and Austin Martinez 19th.

In the longest event of the night, Carbon struggled. Malone ended fourth and Wilhelmi fifth.

For the boys it was Toby Prettyman in fourth. In the 100 back it was Megan Barnett finishing second, Jill Fincher fifth, and Ashley Noyes seventh.

In the boys backstroke Lance Riche garnered second and Tim Neilson fourth.

In the girls 100 Breast Kenzie Mantz scored second, Paula Gibson fifth and Lizethe Pendleton sixth.

The Carbon boys did not have much luck in the breaststroke.

VanDyke was fifth, Torres seventh, Prettman tenth, and Allred ended in 13th.

In the final event of the night, the 400 free relay, the Carbon girls ended in third and improved their time by 10 seconds. The Dino boys grabbed second and also improved their time.

Coach Davis was pretty happy overall, "Carbon swam very well. We had 36 best times, which shows me we are headed in the right direction."
