Free van transportation - The Disabled American Veterans provides free van transportation to the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City for veterans with medical appointments from Price and surrounding areas. Also, the program needs volunteer drivers to help us meet our transporting needs. Food Handlers Classes - for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or deli's. Classes will be taught in Price on November 17 and Dec 8. 2009 at 9:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Southestern Utah District Health Dept., 28 South 100 East in Price. Classes will be taught in Castle Dale on November 18 and December 9, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main St. in Castle Dale. Classes will be taught in Green River on November 24th, 2009 at the Green River City Offices, 460 East Main Street, Green River at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The classes are two hours in length and the cost is $15.00 to take the test. Pumpkin Chuckin' Festival - November 7 at 10:00 a.m. How far can you launch a pumpkin? Build a pumpkin launcher as a group or individual to see who can chuck their pumpkin the farthest. Each launcher will have 3 attempts to chuck an 8-10 lb. pumpkin. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team or participant. Must pre-register by November 2. There will also be a pumpkin carving contest and othet fun games. For information and additional rules contact the Emery County Recreation office at 381-2108.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.For information, call the public health district at 637-3671.

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions. For information and appointments, contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.

Carbon County Family Support and Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old.

The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, support meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence.

Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The center is also collecting donations for displaced families. Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need.

Child care resource and referral - For information on reserving a spot at upcoming child care provider orientation classes, local residents may contact Avis Burrows at 636-2355.

Cell phones for seniors - are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants. For information, seniors may call the RSVP office at 637-9118.

Price library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday.

Story time is scheduled Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m.

English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed.

CEU Prehistoric Museum - will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through September. For information, contact the museum.

Freedom Community Outreach - Located at 550 East 100 South in Price, the organization offers free clothing for local families.
