Carbon County Recreation is currently taking registrations for their youth basketball programs that will begin in November.

Junior Jazz will dominate CCR's winter lineup. There are separate leagues for both boys and girls beginning in the third grade and continuing through 12th grade. According to Assistant Director Frank Ori, parents should sign their children up as soon as possible. "Gym space is becoming more and more limited. We find ourselves scheduling and rescheduling time after time with the different schools trying to accommodate as many activities as possible. If I were a parent I would sign my child up as soon as possible. Some leagues can accommodate a limited number of kids due to gymnasium restrictions so sign up today." The deadline for registration for children grades third to sixth grade is Nov. 3. Volunteer coaches and scorekeeper are also needed for Junior Jazz.

Kindergarten first grade instructional basketball and second grade developmental basketball will begin in early January. K-1 instructional basketball will be one day a week at each of the various elementary schools in the district. Here is a list of where the K-1 league will be each day of the week. Sally Mauro will be on Mondays, Wellington and Pinnacle Canyon on Tuesdays, Castle Heights on Wednesdays, and Creekview on Thursdays. Children go right after school for one hour on the day that corresponds to their school. Participants learn the fundamentals of the game, team concepts and sportsmanship.

The second grade developmental league will be held on Saturdays starting in January. This will be a co-ed league. This will be many children's first opportunity to be on a real team. We do not keep score in this league and focus on fundamentals and learning the game. Kids will meet and have a practice for a half hour before their game each Saturday. The league is seven weeks long. Volunteer coaches are also needed for this league.

Registrations can be made in person at CCR's office located at 81 N 200 E in the Community Development Complex or by mail at P.O. Box 793 Price, Utah 84501. You can also register by phone with a credit card.
