With the two toughest region games still ahead, the Carbon volleyball team made sure they stayed on track with a three game sweep of Union on Tuesday night. The Dinos easily beat the Cougars 25-15, 22-22 and 25-15 to maintain first place in Region 10 action.

In game one, Carbon gained a big lead over Union, but midway through allowed them to climb in and tie it up. Service errors from Carbon gave Union five free points of their 15 total. Finally the Dinos left them in the dust to finish it off. It stayed a bit closer in game two and a service ace from Sara Potts sewed up the win. Game three was all the Dinos. Again service errors from Carbon kept Union in the game for a short time. Amanda Freestone put the icing on the set and match with an impressive kill shot to end it.

Freestone finished with nine kills on the night. Joy Malone led things with 12. Kacylia Ivory led the defense with 12 defensive digs. And on a night the serving wasn't the strongest for the Dinos, Miranda Averett served up three aces to keep Union on their heels.

Coach Bob Potts was happy for the win, but reminded his team through out the night that they needed to get their serves in. "A better team would have capitalized on our problems. But I did challenge them after the weekend tournament to serve tougher. I think that is what they were trying to do."

The Lady Dinos played in the Utah Classic over the weekend. They won two of three in pool play, but then were over powered by the 4A teams they faced in the tournament finals and lost two quick games.

This weekend they are heading south to participate in the Siever Valley Tournament. It will be a taste of state tournament play for the Dinos with teams like Richfield, Wasatch and 2A leading Grand as part of the competition. Coach Potts feels like this will be great preparation for things to come.
