As soccer continues to gain popularity in the United States, it is also picking up steam here in Carbon County. Young people can participate in soccer through the Carbon County Recreation leagues. High school students can participate on the Carbon High team. And now there is an opportunity for those 18 and over to play competitive soccer.
Elmer Coca has organized a team with students from CEU and the community to begin playing other teams from around the state.
They are not currently affiliated with any organized leagues or an official CEU team, but they are gaining players and ready for action.
The team practices on the field behind the B-DAC weeknights from 5:30-8 p.m. They play to have games on Saturdays.
They have played a team from Dos Amigos and this last Saturday they played a team from Salt Lake Community College.
Coca explains the team is still looking for more members to be part of the team. Right now it is mainly CEU players and a few from the community. Also there are two females who are part of the team and playing.
Anyone who would like to give it a try should show up at a practice. There is no cost to play, but each person needs to come with cleats, long socks, practice shorts and shin guards.
