Store, animal shelter, ASPCA team up for animal benefit
Pets in need of a home will be strutting their stuff on a runway at the Peace Garden in Price on Saturday.
The local Maurices, a store in Castlerock Square will be hosting a Rescues and Runways fashion show on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.
"This is a fun way to bring attention to a very serious issue in our community," said store manager Jamie Peterson . "The tough economy is forcing some families to surrender their pets to animal shelters, while at the same time leading to decreased financial support for the shelters. It's a 'perfect storm,' and pets are feeling the brunt of it."
The unique Rescues and Runways fashion show will feature models walking the runway with the latest fall looks along with a pet that is available for adoption.
"We're partnering with Carbon County Animal Shelter, so they'll be bringing in pets to showcase and also be on hand to answer questions people have about adoption or volunteering at the shelter or to learn about other ways they can help," stated Peterson.
The chain has launched Rescues and Runways nationwide to support local shelters and the animals they help. More than 700 Maurices stores in 44 states haved hosted pet-themed fashion shows in September, partnering with their local animal shelter, sponsoring pet supply drives to support their local shelter, and selling a special charm to benefit the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
The friends for life charm is a limited edition charm that will be sold through Oct. 31. It is a charm celebrating the special bond people share with their furry friends. The charm is arranged so that women can wear half the charm and the other half can be worn by their pet. Half of the price of a charm goes to the ASPCA and its national shelter outreach program.
