It was an improbable end to one of the longest region winning streaks in 3A volleyball. After beating one of the states top ranked teams on Tuesday, the Lady Dino volleyball team got swept by one of the weaker teams in the region on Thursday. ALA downed the Dinos 26-24, 26-24, 25-20 to end the two and a half year streak by the Lady Dinos in region competition.

Carbon's kill leader, Joy Malone, was out with an injury and the Dinos struggled to find someone to step up and finish off rallies. In game one all the Dinos needed was a point to put ALA away and a wayward serve game the opportunity back to the Eagles and they capitalized to take the win.

In game two Carbon again was at set point and gave it back to the Eagles to finish them off.

For the final game, Carbon trailed most of the way, but made some small rallies to gain ground. But in the end it just wasn't enough and the streak was over.

Carbon is now tied with Wasatch for first in the region at 3-1 as they begin the second half of play.

Coach Bob Potts struggled to find words to say after the match. "Disappointed. It was like they lacked focus. Its not that they didn't play hard, because they did. But they were out of position and out of step the entire match."

When asked about how the absence of Malone hurt he replied, "Joy (Malone) does get 20-30 kills a night, but she is just one player. We need someone to step up when she isn't in. Next season we won't have her and who will be ready to take over what she does?"

The team will have a week to work on issues that cropped up in the loss before entertaining Park City on Oct. 6.
