FERRON - Donald H. Olsen, age 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Mountain View Health Services in Ogden.
He was born July 4, 1920 in Ferron to J. Leonard and Myrtle Thompson Olsen. Don married his soulmate, Norma Spindoth, and they enjoyed many wonderful places before her passing on Dec. 7, 1995.
Don served in the U.S. Army and, shortly after being discharged, he moved to California, where he worked as a chef.
After years in California, they moved to Alaska, where Don went to work on the Army base.
They fell in love with Alaska and the people and became foster parents to many of the Eskimo children. These bonds lasted a lifetime and many were saddened to learn of his passing.
Don enjoyed bowling and golfing.
He spent his retirement years in Arizona, St. George and, when his health began to decline, he returned home to be closer to family.
He is survived by his sister, Leah (Bill) Krompel, Price; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers and two sisters, Douglas, Dee, Aleen and Elsie.
Funeral service Friday, Aug. 14, 1 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Friday one-half hour prior to service. Don will be laid to rest in the Ferron City Cemetery.
