After going undefeated in the state Babe Ruth tournament, Carbon had a lot of momentum going as they headed to Ukiah Cal. for the regional contest and a chance to go on to the world series tournament. The regional meeting included the western region's best of the best. By the end Carbon had held their own, but fell just short of their goal.

Things kicked off on Thursday with Carbon matched up with Reno, NV, in a close game that resulted in another win for the Carbon boys. The final against Reno ended with 3-2, but Torrance, Ca beat Carbon 10-6.

Hitting the loser bracket, Carbon fought back with two wins on Saturday. They defeated Ukiah 6-4, and in a rematch with Reno beat them again 8-7. This put them a game away from a rematch with Torrance and the championship game, but Palo Alto, CA stood in the way, and took the game 12-7. This sent the Carbon boys home.

Coach James Cordova could not say enough about the team's performance at the tournament. Even in their losses the boys kept their heads in the game and never gave up. Torrance proved to be the strongest team their beating Guam 17-2 and Palo Alto 13-2. When Carbon played them, the Torrance boys went up 6-0 right away. Carbon battled back and made it much closer than any other team could scoring six runs against a team that wasn't used to allowing much scoring at all.

Carbon hit well the whole tournament, but they soon found out that balls hit to the fence didn't yield the extra bases that the y normally did.The competition was able to get the ball back much quicker sure-triples in earlier state-games turned into lucky doubles in this regional affair.

By Sunday's game against Palo Alto, fatigue was setting in. Unseasonably cold weather combined with a heavy humid fog like haze effected the distance the Carbon balls went as they left their bats. Still against Palo Alto they were up by four early on. But it all slipped away in the late innings as Palo Alto began to pile on the runs and pulled away for the win.

In the eyes on the coaches and parents who went to watch, the Carbon 15 year old Babe Ruth team represented Utah extremely well. They played against the best of the west and held their own through it all. Sportsmanship and pride were foremost in the boys as they took the field in each and every game.
