EC museum opens
East Carbon has long anticipated the opening of their new town museum and that event was well attended when it took place last week.
The museum features materials, displays as well as video from the past, covering the life and times of those who have populated the east county area for over 100 years.
As with all area towns, the mining industry is the center of the museums historical displays. Equipment and personal items from miners make up a good part of the museum's exhibits.
Also prominent in the building located at 124 Whitmore Avenue, are items from the schools that have been located in the area over the years, particularly the recently closed East Carbon High School. Trophies, sculptures, paintings and sports memorabilia of a time when the high school was the thriving center of the town are on display throughout the museum.
Also a video corner not only covers all the graduates of East Carbon High but also has DVDs made from home movies taken at parades and events in the town over the years.
The museums hours of operation at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
