Loose dogs do extensive damage to small donkey herd

Jackie Fox of the San Rafael Animal Clinic holds an IV above the head of Little Foot, a miniature donkey that was attacked by loose dogs on Wednesday morning. Kathy Morris, Little Foot's owner, said it and another older miniature donkey, Happy, were in her pasture and the dogs got them by the throat. Happy, who was pregnant, died in the incident. Two other small donkeys, one less than a month old, were apparently not attacked by the dogs. Doreen McCourt, the Carbon County Animal Shelter Director, investigated the incident and captured one of the dogs, a Boxer, mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

"The Boxer never would have done that himself," said McCourt. "We are still looking for another dog."

The incident is a good example of why dogs should be kept confined in yards or runs. Once in a pack mentality, dogs can be dangerous to other animals."
