A Price man was arrested early in the morning on July 19 after allegedly assaulting one man with a rock and another with a propane lantern.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. the Uintah County Sheriff's Department responded to Steinaker State Park campground on a report a fight was going on in the area.

On arriving deputies learned that two reportedly intoxicated men had been asked to leave the campground after they had caused some problems at the site. Reportedly the two men refused to leave. When confronted about his behavior, reportedly Robert Mark Gomez, 28, of Price, picked up a rock and threw it at a Colorado man who had come to assist in getting the men to leave.

The thrown rock hit the man in the throat causing internal injuries. The Gomez allegedly swung a metal and glass propane lantern at another man hitting him in the side of the head and face causing a laceration above the mans eye and partially severing his ear. When the lantern struck the man it shattered.

Reportedly after the incident Gomez left the scene but was later located and arrested by deputies.

The second man who was with Gomez was not found to be involved in the assaults.

Both the victims were transported to the Ashley Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Gomez was booked into the Uintah County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault and one of intoxication.
