The Helper American Legion team is now playing in their state tournament at Kearns. They played a good Grand Junction team in Helper last Tuesday as a warm-up for the state tournament which began on July 25.

The Helper team began the tournament with a Saturday game at 4 p.m. against Grantsville. Coach Jeff Cisneros said, "We started the game with Grantsville and got down early. It was 5-0 early in the game. But, we slowly worked our way back into the game and scored runs in every inning.

"Josh Denison started on the mound for us and pitched a good game for four innings. Colter Moore came in to pitch to start the fifth inning and did an excellent job for us.

"We were slow getting the bats going in the game, but then we started getting some good hits. Danny Flahie and Chris Coleman really came alive and helped out a lot. Kash Jewkes had a couple of singles and one came at a crucial time when the score was tied 5-5. He hit in two runs which put us ahead in the fifth inning. We ended up winning by a score of 8-5.

"We played some really good defense. We only had one error in the game. We finally got some offense going too. It was a really nice game for us.

"On Monday we will play the older Taylorsville team. They have been picked all along as a favorite to win this tournament. But, I told my players, we are all 0-0 at the state tournament and it all starts over. Taylorsville was the best team in the league all season. We play Taylorsville at 5 p.m. If we win we play Tuesday at 7 p.m. and if we lose we will play at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. We will start Braydon Bolotas on the mound on Tuesday against Taylorsville," said Coach Cisneros.
