Price Babe Ruth team remains undefeated at state
In their second game of the state Babe Ruth tournament being held in Price, the local team beat Tooele six to three on Tuesday night to stay undefeated.
This sets them up for a game against Westside on Thursday night at 5:30 pm. Westside defeated Murray 13 to eight in the early game on Tuesday.
Emery lost their first game and then advanced with a win against Herriman to earn a game with Tooele on Wednesday night.
In the Tuesday night game, Jaren McCourt got the nod for Carbon. He pitched solid as the first two innings were a pitchers duel. The offense from both teams struggled to move their runners, but both teams had their chances early on leaving those chances sitting on third.
Coach James Cordova was the first to calm his team down and in the bottom of the third they displayed more patience and their bats began to connect.
Seth Tryon smashed a triple for an RBI and Price was up two to zero. McCourt was relieved late in the game with Jake Nichols and the hometown boys prevailed over Tooele.
This wasn't the easy win the team had over Ogden,in game one, but for Cordova it was just as satisfying.
"I'm glad they had a game like this" he said, "It was good solid competition and it was good to get the win. I told the boys that they were making the (Tooele) pitcher look better than he was and they geared up and figured it out. In a close game it brings out the best in the kids. I suspect, though, we will see Tooele again later in the tournament."
For the 13 year old Price Babe Ruth team, the news wasn't as good. They lost their second round game five to three and are done for the season.
The hometown boys play Westside at 5:30 pm on Thursday night. The early game on Thursday will be the winner of the Emery-Tooele match up vs the winner of the Murray-Ogden game. Those games will have taken place on Wednesday night. The public is encouraged to come out and support the teams.
