The Utah Babe Ruth Baseball tournaments are underway this Saturday. The 13 to 15 year old tournament is being played right here in Price at the CEU field. The tournament goes on through Saturday, July 25.
Carbon took on Ogden in their first game on Saturday night. They easily moved on with a 17 to one win to their next game Tuesday night against Tooele. Tooele advanced with a forfeit from Richfield who did not show up. Carbon and Tooele will square off at 5:30 pm on Tuesday (today).
On Saturday Seth Tryon took the mound and Jake Nichols came in to finish it up. Coach Jameo Cordova was happy to get the first win behind the team, but had great confidence that they would get the job done.
He complimented his team's offense stating, "there is not a kid on the team that can't hit. On some team's there is that one or two kids that when they come up to bat you go oh no, but not on this team. " They all can hit and usually do. They all did on Saturday," he said.
Cordova is encouraging people to come out and watch the boys play. It is not often that the Babe Ruth State tournament is held in Price and it would be great to have the stands full to show support.
Murray and Westside also advanced to the second round and will meet up on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 pm. In the loser bracket, Herriman will take on Emery at 3:00 pm on Monday. Ogden will get a bye as Richfield has been scrubbed from the competition for failing to show on Saturday.
Carbon also has a team playing in the 13 year old tournament in Taylorsville. The Carbon thirteen year olds lost their first round game to Tooele by the score of 17 to zero. They now faced Westside at 5:00 pm on Monday in Taylorsville. Results for their game will be available on Thursday.
