ST. GEORGE - Mike Barnes passed away on June 27, 2009 at the age of 56 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 7, 1953 in Grand Junction, Colo., to Freddie Marvin Barnes and Joyce Elouise Ogden Barnes. He married Connie M. Howells on Nov. 20, 1972 in Price.
Mike spent his childhood in both Colorado and Utah.
His professions included working as a truck driver for Western Coal Carrier of Price and Nielson Construction of Huntington. He was a service tech. for Palm Harbor Homes in Grand Junction, Colo., retiring in 2006 due to illness.
Mike loved the outdoors and he loved to fish, hunt and camp. His greatest joy in life was making people laugh.
Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Connie M. Barnes of St. George; son, Michael L. Barnes of Colorado Springs, Colo..; daughter, Christy A. Calhoon (Greg) of St. George; five grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler and Cortlyn of Orem; Deion and Sydney of St. George.; his mother, Joyce E. Barnes of Mesquite, Nev.; sisters, Betty Toso of Cortez, Colo., and Donna Thomas of Price. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 2, at the St. George East LDS Stake Center under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary.
The family is appreciative of the entire staff at Southern Utah Home Care and Hospice for their constant supportÂ to the family and especially Bob Groke, RN, for the loving care given to Mike. A most sincere thank you also goes out to them for making Mike's dream come true with a flight over the Grand Canyon.Â
