The FYI sections are published on a space permitting basis.


Golf Skills Shoot Out - Price Elks Lodge will host the event for Carbon County youth ages 17 years or younger on June 29.

The shoot out will start at 9 a.m. at Carbon Country Club.

To sign up to participate in the event, youth should contact the pro shop at 637-2388.


Sunnyside Rodeo - The event is slated July 10 and July 11 at the Sunnyside arena.

The royalty contest is planned June 28 at 5 p.m. at the Sunnyside arena. Royalty will consist of the rodeo queen, two attendants and two princesses.

Preregistration to compete in the contest is not required.

Greek Festival Days - The cultural event will be presented July 10 and July 11 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.

The church is located at 61 South 200 East in Price.

Activities will include Greek food and pastries, live entertainment, prize drawings, church tours and games for children.


Wellington Mountaineers Rodeo - The event is scheduled July 24 and July 25 at the Wellington arena. The pre-rodeo will start at 7 p.m.

The rodeo queen contest is slated July 12 at 6:30 p.m.


Food handlers classes - Two-hour sessions are scheduled July 14, Aug. 11 and Sept. 8 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District in Price.

Classes will also be taught July 15, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale.

Western Mining and Railroad Museum - Located at 296 South Main in Helper, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Carbon County Triad - meets the first Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the Price public safety dispatch center.

Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly.


Gallery East - Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.


Immunization clinic hours - Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex.

The district court complex is located at 149 East 100 South in Price.

Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.


Carbon County Family Support and Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old.

The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, support meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence.

Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The center is also collecting donations for displaced families.

Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need.

Child care resource and referral - For information on reserving a spot at upcoming child care provider orientation classes, local residents may contact Avis Burrows at 636-2355.

Applications for startup grants are available at the agency's office at CEU.


Cell phones for seniors - are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants.

Price library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday.

Story time is scheduled Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m.

English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed.

Helper library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program.

CEU Library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Saturday; and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hours vary during holiday weekends, school breaks and summer semesters.

Rape crisis hot line - Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.


Carbon County Humane Society - offers clinics the third Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price.

Carbon County residents should contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation - is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife.

The group needs a volunteer to organize and carry out fundraising events.

Castle Country Habitat for Humanity - is accepting applications for homes from eligible candidates. The office is located at 150 South 700 East in Price.

Donations may be sent to the group at PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501.

CEU Prehistoric Museum - is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For information, Carbon County residents may contact the museum.


Freedom Community Outreach - Located at 550 East 100 South in Price, the organization offers free clothing for local families.

The center is open Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Donations of gently used clothes and household items are accepted.
