The Helper American Legion team opened it's season as they traveled to Vernal. The team took on Uintah in a doubleheader. Helper won the first game 10 to zero and played very well. In the second game Uintah put up more of a fight, but Helper held on to win 10 to seven.

Coach Jeff Cisneros was pretty happy with the team's start.

"Overall our pitching and defense was great and we really hit the ball well for it being the first game of the year." he said. " All of our pitchers got at least two innings and everyone got a chance to play and contribute"

Hayden Basinger got the win on the mound in the first game. Helper scored a pair in the first, three in the third, three more in the fourth. They finished it off with a pair in the fifth inning.

Beau Rich and Kash Jewkes each had three hits in the first game. Hayden Basinger, Daniel Peczuh, Kenny Seals and Chris Coleman all had two hits.

In the second game, Helper played another solid game. They let Uintah come back in the last few innings and tied things up. This game went nine innings, but it was Helper who came out on top by three.

"Again our pitching was good and our defense was pretty solid. We did not hit as well as we did in the first game but some of our younger players got some valuable time and it will pay off as the season goes along," commented Cisnoeros.

Colter Moore picked up the win on the mound this game. Colter is from Fremont High School and will be attending Emery High next year.

"Colter is a player that will really help us out is some different areas this summer." explained Cisneros about the new face on the team.

Wrapping it up, Cisneros said, "Overall I was very pleased with our effort against a good Uintah team. Uintah will once again be playing as a independent legion team this summer and should have a good chance to make the state legion tournament. We have the Alumni game on the sixth and we open up our league play at home Monday night the eighth at 7 p.m. against Taylorsville."
