In a season of almost wins and coming up just short, the Carbon Dinos finished off region play without letting the last one slip away.

A 2-1 win over North Sanpete gave the Dinos what they had been trying for all season.

The Hawks chipped a shot in early in the contest to take the lead. But the Dinos weren't ready to concede to a shutout season and stepped things up a notch.

Twenty minutes into the half, Jose Munoz made a beautiful crossing pass to Fernando Mendoza who punched it into the Hawks goal to tie it up at one. And then with little time left before the half, it was Munoz to Mendoza on another crossing pass to take the lead.

In the final period Carbon dominated the game with 17 shots on goal while only allowing North Sanpete three. The defensive line for the Dinos was solid and repelled any Hawk attack with impunity. Despite the many attempts, the Dinos just could not get the shots to penetrate for a goal and the half time score became the final score.

Coach Patrick Clifford praised his entire team effort. Both the defensive line and the midfield played some of their best soccer of the season in the win.

"It was a fantastic team effort," he said of the win. "We have had lots of games where a bounce here or a call there would have gotten us the win, so it is extremely nice to win this final game."

The win ties the team with the Hawks. A coin flip gave Carbon the fourth seed and sends them to play Park City in the play-in game Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The flip pushed the Hawks to take on the number one team in the state, Logan.
