While many in the community were attending Easter Egg hunts, the College of Eastern Utah baseball team was on the hunt for much needed wins. And that was a successful venture as they swept Colorado Northwestern in a four game set this weekend despite of the foul weather on Saturday.

The Eagles beat CNCC 3-2, and 9-1 on Friday. They completed the sweep with a 3-0 win and then a 3-1 victory to take game, set and match on Saturday.

Friday was perfect baseball weather as CEU took on CNCC in the first game of the set. They jumped out to an early two run lead in the first and held on to win by the score of 3-2. A run by the Eagles in the sixth helped hold off the Spartans as they scored their only two in the seventh.

Pitcher Brad Brinkerhoff got the win and Brett Niburg went three for four at the plate in the close win. The Eagles pounded out 10 hits, but only managed three runs.

In the second game of the day, the Eagles bats continued to send the ball flying as they hammered out eleven hits. This time they parlayed the action into nine runs. CEU scored a pair in the second and two more in the fifth before exploding in the sixth.

Beau Button and Josh Sturgis went two of three from the plate. Nathan Rink got the win off the mound.

On Saturday the rain forced a delay as the host team brought in dirt to make the field playable. But delay or not, pitcher Jessie Hartle was on fire. He took his no hitter deep into the game before a single spoiled it. But he still pitched a complete game shut out as CEU took the win with three runs and eight hits. Niburg put the Eagles on top in the first with a two RBI home run.

The final game of the series Niburg again flexed his muscles as he sent another two RBI shot over the fence in the third to put the Eagles on top for good. Bryson Griffin added two RBI's of his own with a triple in the sixth to give CEU domination over the Spartans in the final meeting of the two teams for the season.

The Golden Eagles head to Salt Lake to a four game series with the Salt Lake Community College Bruins this weekend. Salt Lake is ahead of the Eagles by three games in the standings. CEU sits at 9-19 in conference action. The Eagles took one of four games the last time the two teams met.
