Warm weather warmed up the Dino soccer team as they held the Juan Diego Soaring Eagle to a close game on Tuesday at the Carbon High field. The final score of 5-2 didn't reflect the close and intense battle that went on the field for the entire game.

Carbon went ahead early in the game on a long kick from Jose Munoz that sailed right over the Juan Diego goalie. It was a back and forth scrimmage until the Soaring Eagle put in two before the half ended.

The Dinos sent another one into the net on a well delivered pass from Fernado Mendoza to Munoz who sent it rolling past the goal tender. It looked like the Dinos had tied it up a short time later on another goal that was called back on an off sides call. Later on it looked like the Dinos scored once more as the Soaring Eagle Goalie caught the ball and fell back into the box, but it was ruled the ball didn't cross the line and another score was denied.

Juan Diego scored twice more in the final minuted of the game to ice it up and stay in second place in the region. Carbon is at the bottom with no where to go but up.

Coach Patrick Clifford was feeling a lot better about his team after the Juan Diego match up then what he had seen from them against Delta.

"All in all we played terrific soccer. The score didn't show how truly close it was. They (Juan Diego) had 18 shots on goal in the game and we had 17. This was truly our best game against Juan Diego we have had since I have been coaching here."

The team played against Salem Hills on Wednesday. Game results will be posted next week. They also have a rematch against the Soaring Eagle on Tuesday, March 14th on the road.
