Carbon track off to good start
On March 21, the Carbon High track team played host to 17 teams from around the state at their annual Farm Bureau Invitational meet. It was the only home meet for the team this year and was also a state qualifying meet.
Carbon did well with the girl's team finishing in second place and the boy's team taking fifth overall.
Some of the highlights for the Lady Dinos were Karissa Nelson taking second in the 100 meters and 3rd in the 300 meters.
Felicia Olmos won the long jump and took second in the 200 meter run. Regan Powell placed third in the 200 meter.
The Carbon girl's 1600 sprint medley relay garnered first as well as did the 4x400 relay team. The 4x100 girl's relay team ended up second. Chantel Jensen cleared the bar for a second place finish in the high jump followed by Miranda Averett in third.
For the Carbon boys Brock Morley grabbed first in the 300 meter hurdles and took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles. Jordan Tatton finished third in the 200 meter dash. Kaleb Kulow finished second and Jaren Richens followed him across the line in the 800 meter run.
The Dino 1600 sprint medley team finished in second. The 4x100 and the 4x400 relay teams each took a third place finish.
Last week the team went on the road for the Grand High School invitational. There were about 12 schools that attended that meet.
The girls team was missing a few girls due to prior commitments. The girls that did attend had great performances.
Felicia Olmos won the long jump and took second place in the 200 meters.
Karissa Nelson took first place in the 300 meter hurdles and second in the 100 meter hurdles. Kacylia Ivory placed third in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Regan Powell placed third in the 200 meters and fifth in the long jump.Â
Those same four girls ran in the 4x100 finishing first and also made up the 4x4 relay team that placed second overall.
"This is quite amazing considering all the events they had ran prior to the relay race," commented Coach Telisse Allen after the event.
The boy's team also had a great meet. They placed second overall to Park City. The boy's highlights included Brock Morley placing first in the 300 hurdles, Jordan Tatton took third in the long jump and also the 200 meters. Jared Richens and Kaleb Kulow went third and fourth in the 800 meters.
The boys also had a strong showing in the high jump with Ryan Rasmussen, Jed Prettyman and Dayton Martindale placing third, fourth and fifth respectively. The boy's 4x100 relay team placed second. The team consisted of Derek Quinton, Carson Tatton, Ryan Rasmussen, and Jordan Tatton. The boys also got some help in the throwing events from Jason Fredrickson, Dayton Martindale and Dallen Garvin in the shot, disc, and javelin.
Allen summed it up.
"It was a real team effort that was capped off by a boys 4x400 team that ran away from the favored Park City to win the relay. The relay members were Jared Richens, Dayton Martindale, Ryan Rasmussen, and Brock Morley. The coaching staff is super excited about where both teams are this early in the season. Girls and boys teams have both brought home trophies."
The freshman and sophmores have a meet at Carbon High on March 31.
The varsity travels to Salem Hills on April 7 to compete.
