Moab's Grand High school's baseball team came to town on Tuesday after the Carbon High Dinos had steamrolled through a Colorado stand last weekend. They didn't fair any better than the teams to the east as the Dinos crushed them 17-3.

The cold blustry wind didn't seem to bother the Dinos as Nathan Martinez took the mound. He quickly set the Red Devils down in order and the Carbon bats went to work. Nine runners crossed the plate with no outs for the Dinos before Moab was forced to change pitchers.

In the second inning another five Dinos scored. The Red Devils finally got on the board in the third with a single run. Carbon answered with three more.

In the end Carbon blasted their 17 runs on 13 hits. Five Dinos slammed hits for extra bases. Hayden Basinger, Beau Rich, Nathan Martinez and Lance Deeter each had a two bagger, while Keny Seals blasted out a triple.

"We hit the ball well and just played good ball. The best part is that we spread things out too. Many of the kids got hits," said Carbon Coach Troy Moynier after the game.

As he looked forward to next weeks region play he added, "I was really nervous at the beginning of the season, but we are playing better and really hitting the ball well right now."

One last preseason contest will give Carbon a bit more time to continue to sharpen their skills with a home game against Union on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
