Letter to the editor: Locked up because of SUWA

I would like to applaud Wade Allinson on his letter (Letters to the editor, Sun Advocate, Feb. 17, 2009) about Mr. Groene and the efforts that he and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance are trying to pursue, this time, in a slightly different way.

I have always known that Wade has a true grasp on reality and what SUWA and their executioners are all about. Now maybe more people in the area do also.

Mr. Groene talks about a give and take process that we all have to participate in when it comes to our public lands. If any of the members of the Public Lands Council believes that there would be a fair process, I want to offer my opinion that they are wrong. It would be a matter of us giving and SUWA taking, thereby locking the land up.

Mr. Groene and SUWA have tremendous political power to help them. As someone that has made an occasional trip to our beautiful San Rafael, I have seen where they have even swayed the Bureau of Land Management in their direction of thinking.

If you don't believe this, then try to make a trip into the beautiful Junes Bottom on the Green River or the Muddy River Gorge where it cuts through the San Rafael Reef. It is locked up my friends. These and dozens of more places like them.

Ask yourself where the little bits of history of our fore fathers such as the bridge across Swasy's Leap, old mining cabins and others are going? I guess they don't fit in with the pristine areas.

Wade and others like him need to keep up the good work, the good watch and keep people informed.
