REAP to be highlighted at workshop program in SLC
The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Agency, will host workshops next week to present information about the USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).
The workshop is targeted for public orientation, application and technical assistance. Two sessions (repeated) will be held on Thursday, March 26, session one from 8:00 a.m. to noon and session two from 1 to 5 p.m. in Provo at the BOR Building, 302 East 1860 South, Conference Room One.
Guest speaker/trainer at both meetings will be Jeff Jobe from the national office staff. Hosting the meetings will be Perry Mathews, USDA Rural Development Business and Cooperative Program Director along with Roger Koon, Business and Cooperative Specialist and Energy Coordinator.
The workshop is geared toward small business owners and/or farmers who may be interested in reducing energy costs, generating their own "green power," or who are looking for new ways to increase the viability of their business/farm.
REAP offers grants, guaranteed loans, and combinations grant/guaranteed loans to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses purchase and install renewable energy systems such as, wind turbines, solar panels, geothermal, micro-hydro, or biomass. Also, energy efficiency improvement projects, for example, grain dryers, irrigation systems, refrigeration units, lighting, or the installation of new electric motors or heating, ventilation and cooling systems are eligible.
