As conference play hits full swing for the Eagles, CEU played a four game home stand against the SLCC Bruins last weekend. They were able to win one out of the four. CEU lost the first three games 6-3,4-2 and 10-8. It was the final match-up that let them salvage an 8-5 win.
The Eagle's conference record drops to 4-8 with an overall record of 11-15.
On Friday, March 13 CEU played a strong opening game as they took on the Bruins. In the fourth SLCC broke the stalemate with a run. In the bottom half Josh Sturgis hit a three run dinger and CEU had the lead.
It didn't last long as the Bruins tied it up next time up. Knotted at three going into the seventh, the Bruins posted three and CEU had no answer and game one went to SLCC.
CEU's Jesse Hartle started on the mound in game two. Salt Lake did all the scoring through five. The Eagles found their bats in the seventh, but fell two runs short and posted another loss. Bradley Jackson was the losing pitcher of record for CEU.
The same two teams went back at it on Saturday. Each team scored in the first. The Eagles were ahead 6-2 in the 3rd before the Bruins sent four across in the fourth to tie it. It was a wild game with CEU going through four different pitchers. Brett Barrett recorded the CEU loss. Salt Lake scored their 10 runs on 13 hits. CEU posted eight runs on 12 hits.
In the final game of the stand, CEU pounded out another 14 hits. The lead seesawed in the final game until the fourth when the Eagles scored four to take the lead for good. Brennan Hallows went the distance on the mound for CEU and got a much earned win.
Back on the road for four this weekend will have the Golden Eagles in Henderson, Nevada to meet up with the College of Southern Nev.
CEU will be home again on March 20 and 21 to face Western Nevada for a pair of double headers.
