The Carbon High boy's tennis team began their season with a win and a loss. On March 13 the team dropped the debut match to Hurricane. Then they traveled north to Cedar City and won three of five sets.

In the Friday matches they lost all of their varsity contests except one. Andres Hernandez, the Dino's number one singles player, beat his opponent in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1. His opponent had been previously undefeated.

The Dino's number one doubles team, Cameron Hanson and Mark Swink, played fairly well but ended up losing in straight sets. The final score of that set was 3-6, 6-7. Greg Diamanti, Carbon's third singles varsity player also played well in a three set match. He ended up losing at the end, 6-4, 6-7,4-6.

Despite the loss, coach Pete Riggs had some positive things to say about his squad.

"Overall the team played well considering the long bus ride and that it was the first match that many of them have ever played," he said.

On Saturday Carbon played at Canyon View High School and the varsity team came out victorious, winning three out of the five matches played. Hernandez dominated his opponent, 6-0,6-0. Diamanti shook off his loss from the day before and won his match 6-1, 6-0.

The third win came from Carbon's second doubles team, Troy Munns and Jordan Pinedo, who had struggled the day before. They also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The other varsity teams played well and improved their play. Injuries for Carbon played some of a factor in those two losses.

The team heads up to play East High in Salt Lake on March 17.

Then they will have a home match on March 26 against Grand at the Price City tennis courts at 3:30 p.m.
